Dr Georgia Demteriou is a Medical Oncologist in Johannesburg South Africa. She is currently acting head of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital as well as a Medical Oncologist in Private Practice at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Parktown Johannesburg.
In addition to her role as Medical Oncologist she also runs a General Medicine Teaching Unit for the University of the Witwatersrand at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and and is a senior lecucturer at the University Of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg South Africa.
Dr Demetriou is the intern and community service medical officer curator at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital overseeing the 108 junior medical staff at the hospital.
She has been involved as an examiner and moderator in the sub-speciality certificate of Medical Oncology for the College of Medicine of South Africa, and has acted as an observer for the College in the examinations for Internal Medicine. She is a Director of the South African Oncology Consortium (SAOC) and is the Chairperson of the Utilization and Review Committee tasked with the overseeing of the SAOC peer review panels and drawing up of oncology treatment guidelines.
She is an Executive Committee member of the South African Medical Oncology Society and serves as the treasurer of the Society. She is a founding member of the organizing committee of the Wits Multidisciplinary Biennial Oncology Meeting and the General Practitioner Oncology Meeting believing in the improving of oncology patient care by improving the multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Her areas of professional interest include Breast Cancer, GIST, Neuroendocrine tumours and Colorectal Cancer and she takes part in various weekly multidisciplinary patient review meetings in these disease areas of oncology.
She has been involved in numerous pivotal clinical trials in the area on Onology as a Principle Investigator in especially breast cancer and serves on local and international Advisory Boards.
